my trading day ~ tuesday 4th january 2011

Good morning to you all, and I hope you had a lovely Christmas and a nice time on New Year’s Eve.

It is time to try to forget about the holiday’s now, and with this in mind, I packed up the weekend cottage yesterday and headed home to Essex late last night (the last of my holiday guests left on Sunday evening) Waking up this morning at my main home puts me in the ‘work’ mood immediately – and the Christmas break is a long, distant memory!

I have a mountain of emails to catch up on, together with some admin work to clear up, but I will probably have a few charts up on the screens as well as I work in my home office for the day. Thank you to all who emailed to wish me season’s greetings, and also those of you who sent me updates to their own trading with one or more of my systems.

I bought a new super-light (12lbs I believe) road bike a few days ago (Cannondale Super Six Ultimate for those of you know about bikes) and I am very keen to get rid of a few extra pounds that somehow attached themselves to me over the past 2 weeks (weird ??) so I will be out for a long ride during the day as well. I am never really one for New Year’s Resolutions, but now I am over 50, my fitness level has got to move up a few notches, so as well as cycling EVERY day for at least 8 miles, I am also going to install an exercise bike here in my home office and also one in my study next to the kitchen – day traders spend a long time sitting in a chair in front of the screens, so a break from that routine is imperative. An hour in one position is long enough, so getting up and having a walk around is a must-do occurrence during the day (or the morning in my case, as I do not trade all day)  I will keep you informed as to my progress.

Over the next year I am determined to travel a lot more, and also demonstrate to you that day-trading can be carried out wherever you are in the world, in different time-zones, so the loose plan (concocted on New Year’s Eve after a lot of wine) is to rent houses all over the world and while I am abroad, I will continue to trade most days and also run Markets Mastered with my eldest son, Max. All you need is a couple of laptops and a mobile (or 2 in my case) If you are trading at a reasonable level (say around £10-£15 per pip) I believe your travelling and living expenses while enjoying yourself abroad will be more than covered by your trading activities, if you work 3 or 4 days a week. A great way to fund your way around the world. My first trip is to be Australia, and get away from the worst of the British weather – and I will also visit Florida before Easter as well.

I will let you know how I get on in the markets with my systems later today, but in the meantime I am going off on the bike as the sun has risen and is looking ok out there – although it was too cloudy at 8 o’clock to see the partial eclipse of the sun (by the moon)

Update 3pm: I returned home at 11 o’clock from my cycle ride, and was installed in the kitchen with a couple of laptops to watch a few charts (not as many as I usually watch as I was not in the study or office with the multi-screen set-ups)  The charts I had up were: EUR/USD, USD/CHF, USD/CAD, EUR/JPY and AUD/USD.  The 1st signal (with my USA Forex system) was at 11:30am and entry was at 11:40 (short) This trade went on until 13:43 when I came out with +23 pips. Exactly 20 seconds after I came out of that trade, I had an entry on a 2nd signal and that one lasted until five minutes before 3pm, and I managed +15 pips. I did not really need to enter the 2nd trade, due to the 1st trade’s profit, but it seemed like a good idea, and it turned out ok in the end. My afternoon’s earnings was +38 pips. By the way, I missed a profitable (long) trade with an entry at 11:44 as I was on an important phone call – this is unusual as I normally have the phones on ‘silent’ when I am trading, and I prefer to have no-one around. If the kitchen gets busy, I move to the study next door and lock myself in. I enjoy ‘working’ in the kitchen if there is nobody else in the house.

Update 9:20pm: My trade with my “Evening” system (Trade With A Day Job) kicked off just after 8pm and by 9pm I had my normal target of +20 pips. I am pleased with my first day’s trading with a profit of +58 pips.
