Tuesday's session had one defining characteristic: it moved against its own opening thesis, twice, without ever settling into a clean directional narrative. Crude opened bid on the Hormuz impasse, pushed toward $89 Brent, and then reversed sharply when Pakistan's defence minister said Washington and Tehran are close to "some sort of an arrangement" - a diplomatic signal unaccompanied by any confirmed detail, but enough to knock $3 off oil within the hour. Gold touched a two-month high near $4,435 before giving back gains to close at $4,381, with the session ultimately decided by rising September Fed hike odds, now sitting at a genuine coin flip near 51%. Silver was the most instructive move: the morning's celebrated breakout above $65.50 was rejected, with the metal settling near $64.78, almost back inside the zone it had left with such conviction overnight. The $64.20 stop level is live and close. The single level that mattered most today was USD/JPY at 159.50: the pair spent the entire session below that intervention-risk threshold in thin Tokyo holiday conditions, containing what could otherwise have been a disorderly yen move. Tomorrow everything concentrates: July CPI at 13:30 UK time, the IEA and OPEC monthly reports, and Tokyo returning to the USD/JPY book for the first time since the pair crept toward 159.50. The full briefing carries the complete positioning framework for all eight instruments into that data gauntlet, the revised stop levels for silver and crude, and a precise execution plan for the CPI print.
